Job summary

Customer.io is seeking a Senior Developer Experience Engineer to design and evolve SDKs and developer tools used by external developers to integrate with a messaging platform. You will combine hands-on coding with technical leadership, API design, and AI-augmented workflows across Swift, Kotlin, Node, and Go ecosystems.

You’ll own SDK initiatives end-to-end, drive technical direction, manage releases, and partner with product/design to deliver a cohesive developer experience.

Qualifications

• Expert-level proficiency in at least one major programming language.
• Strong understanding of software design and API design fundamentals.
• Experience building and evolving mature production software across language ecosystems.
• Ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve multi-platform SDKs (iOS, Android, Node, Go) and developer tooling.
• Lead SDK initiatives end to end: direction, coding, releases, and outcomes.
• Improve SDK delivery infrastructure: CI, tests, versioning, publishing, release processes.
• Collaborate with product/design to translate goals into a cohesive developer experience.
• Participate in on-call to support system reliability.
• Leverage AI agents to perform multi-file changes across languages.
• Maintain customer empathy by understanding external developers’ needs.
