Job summary

McKinstry is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer in Charlotte, NC to support Distributed Energy Resources (DER) projects. You will lead electrical design for building systems, mentor engineers, and coordinate with teams to deliver high‑quality solutions on time and within budget.

You should have 8–10 years in electrical engineering in built environments, PE licensure, proficiency with AutoCAD/Revit/Procore, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience required.
• Professional Engineer registration and ability to acquire licensure in additional states required.
• Experience in design and construction of commercial and light industrial electrical systems.
• Ability to evaluate power systems and perform arc flash, short circuit, coordination studies.
• Medium‑Voltage (15 kV and below) design experience required; protective relaying preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Time management and ability to handle multiple projects while delegating to junior engineers.
• Experience developing engineering fee proposals, resource plans, and financial analyses.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of electrical distribution, lighting, emergency power and medium‑voltage campus systems.
• Mentor and train project engineers on electrical design principles and technical skills.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to uphold best practices and project delivery.
• Oversee analyses supporting pre‑design efforts and sales proposals.
• Develop technical standards and ensure deadlines and budgets are met.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to align scopes with requirements.
