Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Dental Assistant to provide chairside support in Pediatric dentistry, with opportunities to float to Orthodontics. You will assist residents, prepare operatory setups, manage radiographs, and maintain strict infection control in a busy clinic.

This role requires dental assisting certification, a high school diploma, and relevant experience with EHR documentation.

Qualifications

High school diploma and ADA-accredited dental assisting course.
Radiation Safety Certification required for positions responsible for dental x-rays.
1 year of dental assisting experience or 3 years continuous experience.
Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and infection control policies.

Responsibilities

30% chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry for residents; update patient information in EHR.
25% set up operatory, maintain instruments, sterilize equipment, and follow OSHA/infection control policies.
10% perform oral prophylaxis and document care in the EHR.
10% acquire radiographs (periapical, panoramic, cephalometric, 3-D) per treatment plans and safety standards.
10% assist with patient care including transport and monitoring post-anesthesia.
10% manage dental supplies and inventory; support administrative tasks and incident reporting.
5% assist in other clinics as needed by the clinic manager.
