Job description

Required Qualifications: Must meet Civil Service standards and specifications, having passed the relevant Civil Service exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list. Provisional appointments may be made if there are insufficient acceptors on the list. Provisional appointees are required to pass the next Civil Service exam to attain permanent status.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a dental assistant in an academic setting, including training dental assistant students, and at least one year of operating room Dental Assistant experience.

*Incumbents performing sterilization duties may need current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician or an equivalent credential.

Duties include:

  1. Supervising, training, and evaluating Dental Assistants and dental students.
  2. Preparing treatment areas and noting treatments to be performed.
  3. Preparing patients for treatment and assisting during procedures chair-side.
  4. Performing retractions, manipulating syringes, irrigation, and suction as instructed by the dentist.
  5. Monitoring patients' condition during treatment and reporting any issues.
  6. Taking dental x-rays according to law.
  7. Performing mechanical tasks like trimming or mounting impressions.
  8. Performing duties of a Dental Assistant.

Administrative duties:

  • Supporting office functions, scheduling, record-keeping, and responding to inquiries.
  • Preparing dental reports as needed.

Procedures and Practices:

  • Maintaining infection control and OSHA standards.
  • Sterilizing instruments, managing inventory, and disposing of waste properly.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the dental facility.

Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nonexempt under FLSA, eligible for overtime. Salary includes location and geographic pay. Must pass background check and meet health and licensing requirements before employment. No visa sponsorship available.

Additional requirements: Pre-employment physical, references, and proof of licenses/certificates.

Position is essential and requires reporting even during emergencies.
