Job Description
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Dentist or Oral Surgeon, under the direct supervision of the Dentist or Oral Surgeon.
- Prepares the patient prior to treatment by seating the patient (escorting the patient to and from the Treatment Room) and then draping the patient.
- Takes X-Rays, to include, periapical and bite wings, Panorex, prepare the x-ray cassettes for the Panorex, change the x-ray developing liquids.
- Assume chair side duties to include, assist the dentist or oral surgeon with surgery, maintain the equipment, disinfect the dental operatory between patients, change the hand pieces between patients, break down used trays prior to sterilization, pour study models and trim, maintain the inventory of supplies and organize the cabinets.
- Assist with Ambulatory Surgical Procedures by giving pre and post op instructions, monitor the patients' vital signs, maintain anesthesia and invasive procedure records, prepare and break down the room between patients,
- Prepare procurement requisitions for E.D. specific medical-surgical supplies and equipment.
- Use and view the EPIC (WISDOM) scheduling system as needed.
- Spray the soiled instruments with the enzymatic solution and then transport the soiled instruments from the operatory to the cart in the Soiled Utility Room following the Infection Prevention standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program, which included or was supplemented by 600 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside; or
- A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program, which included or was supplemented by 300 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside; and 6 (six) months of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant performing all of the following duties: taking and uploading dental digital imaging, assisting dentist at chairside, and preparing dental instruments for sterilization; or
- A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant performing the duties described in “2” above; or
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience which is equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above. Each 100 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside is equivalent to two (2) months of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent.
Experience as a receptionist or clerk in a dentist’s office is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.
