Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Highway Construction Inspector to independently coordinate, schedule, and inspect all phases of highway construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans and safety standards. The role supports DBE firms and ensures they can perform contracted work on federally funded projects.

Responsibilities include communication with VDOT and contractors, contract compliance, DBE oversight, and comprehensive project documentation.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple inspection activities.
• Knowledge of DBE program, labor compliance, and related regulations.
• Ability to read and understand project drawings and specifications.
• Certifications within 12 months of employment.
• Safety shoes required and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule and inspect highway construction projects for quality per plans and specs.
• Monitor inspections, ensure contract compliance and oversee materials testing.
• Ensure DBE compliance and review subcontractor performance.
• Review submittals, track project progress and maintain files.
• Communicate with VDOT, contractors and the public about traffic changes and project status.
