Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a Project Inspector to inspect highway construction and maintenance projects under supervision. You will ensure quality, safety, and compliance with plans and environmental controls, while coordinating with staff and the public about traffic changes and project phases.

You will maintain detailed records, manage materials testing, and assist with project documentation and closeout activities, contributing to a safe, efficient transportation system for the traveling

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
• Ability to maintain detailed records and project files.
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze roadway plans and contract documents.
• Knowledge of construction, civil engineering, project management or materials inspection.
• Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
• Possession of or ability to obtain required certifications within 12 months.
• Safety shoes required.
• Experience with computers and software applications.
• Experience in inspection methods and materials testing.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Inspect highway construction and maintenance projects under supervision.
• Communicate with staff and the public about traffic changes and project phases.
• Ensure compliance with contract documents, environmental controls, safety, and EEO/DBE guidelines.
• Maintain materials testing and project documentation; track changes and progress.
• Oversee QC tasks, monitor schedules, and assist with inspections and training.
