Job summary

Foley is seeking a senior Database Engineer to own reliability, performance, and availability of production databases. You will lead administration, tuning, and optimization of Microsoft SQL Server and Amazon Redshift, designing HA/DR strategies and cost-efficient AWS data warehouse architectures.

You’ll partner with Data and Analytics, Product, Infrastructure, and Security teams to enable reporting, AI use cases, and secure access controls.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience managing production database environments.
• Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including performance tuning, indexing, and HA/DR.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS data warehouse technologies, including Amazon Redshift.
• Proven experience managing database security, access controls, and permissions in regulated or security-conscious environments.
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with Product, Infrastructure, Engineering, and leadership teams.
• Demonstrated AI fluency and curiosity, with experience using automation or AI-enabled tools to improve reliability, monitoring, or efficiency.
• Experience with additional AWS services (RDS, EC2, S3, IAM, monitoring/logging tools).
• Exposure to data engineering pipelines or analytics platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own database reliability, performance, and availability.
• Lead administration, monitoring, tuning, and optimization of Microsoft SQL Server and Amazon Redshift environments.
• Design and maintain HA, backup, and DR strategies meeting business SLAs.
• Lead data warehouse operations in AWS.
• Own AWS-based data warehouse architecture for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Partner with Data and Analytics to support reporting, analytics, and AI use cases.
• Manage database security and access controls across platforms.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure and Security to meet internal standards and external requirements.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to data access, integrity, and availability.
• Communicate risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to stakeholders including leadership.
• Drive operational excellence and automation; improve reliability via scripting and monitoring.
• Leverage AI-assisted capabilities to reduce manual work and optimize DBA operations.
