Job summary

Stem Inc. is seeking a Senior Data Scientist focused on PV performance modeling and diagnostics for PowerTrack.

You will advance physics-based models for solar PV and battery assets, ensure reliable performance reporting, and contribute to energy forecasting that informs merchant and storage use cases. You will work with software and data engineers to scale models, validate against ground truth, and communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in data science, analytics, PV/solar performance engineering, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or higher; PhD preferred for advanced modeling.
• Hands-on PV performance modeling using libraries like pvlib or similar.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and improvement of physics-based performance models for solar PV and battery assets in PowerTrack.
• Own accuracy of performance/loss reporting and forecast for energy planning.
• Develop time-series forecasting models to support expected-energy predictions and storage use cases.
• Run experiments, validate models, and document findings for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with software/data engineers to integrate models into scalable production systems.
• Support anomaly detection work and align data interfaces for future ML-based diagnostics.
• Provide leadership in peer reviews and guide junior data scientists.
