Job summary

Porch Group is seeking a Staff Data Scientist, Insurance Pricing to shape pricing and risk modeling for homeowners insurance. You will set strategic direction, own complex modeling problems end-to-end, and collaborate with actuarial and product teams to translate property data into competitive advantages.

You will mentor data scientists, deploy GLM-based pricing and ML models, and drive adoption of advanced techniques across the organization to improve profitability and retention.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data science with pricing/risk modeling.
• Proven leadership mentoring data scientists.
• Experience deploying GLM-based pricing in production.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical vision for insurance pricing and risk modeling across the team.
• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to other data scientists.
• Architect and deploy GLM-based models (frequency, severity, loss cost) for homeowners pricing.
• Build ML models to improve underwriting accuracy and profitability.
• Develop ensemble models predicting profitability, retention, and LTV.
• Lead use of non-traditional data sources to quantify local risk.
• Collaborate with product, actuarial, engineering for high-priority initiatives.
• Champion deployment practices and A/B testing in high-traffic environments.
• Explore generative AI and LLMs for new business opportunities.
