Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Data Reliability Engineer to focus on the integrity, quality and availability of data assets and pipelines. This role partners with the SRE team to apply data-centric reliability across the data journey.

Hybrid role with in-office expectation three days per week (Tue–Thu) at locations including Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; and Charlotte, NC. You will drive data observability, automation, and data governance to keep pipelines resilient and trustworthy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, data, or related tech fields.
• 3+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Quality, or a specialized SRE role.
• Authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Data Reliability & Quality: Establish and enforce Data Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for data freshness, completeness, and accuracy.
• Data Observability: Implement data observability tools to monitor the data journey from ingestion to consumption.
• Pipeline Resiliency & Automation: Collaborate with Data Engineering to embed reliability patterns in data pipelines (Informatica, Python/PySpark on EMR/Hadoop).
• Toil Elimination in Data Operations: Automate data validation, reprocessing, backfilling, and other manual tasks.
• Incident and Problem Management (Data Focus): Lead data-related incident responses and post-mortems.
• Runbook Creation & Automation (Data Focus): Develop automated runbooks for data pipeline failures and recovery scenarios.
