Job summary

The Hartford in Charlotte, NC seeks a Staff Reliability Engineer focused on Data Reliability, Observability, and Data Quality. You will partner with the SRE team to ensure data assets are trustworthy across pipelines built with Informatica, Python/PySpark on AWS/GCP.

This hybrid role requires 3 days in office and offers a path to advanced data operations, DataOps, and AI-enabled automation to improve data freshness and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years in Infrastructure/Data or related tech with increasing responsibilities.
• 3+ years in Data Engineering, Data Quality, or a specialized SRE role in an enterprise data environment.
• Hands-on experience with data warehousing and data lake tech including Snowflake, and cloud environments (AWS/GCP).
• Experience with ETL pipelines using SSIS/SSMS.
• Collaborate with teams to support software solutions using .NET (C#/VB.NET) with SQL backends.
• Experience with Informatica, Python/PySpark, EMR/Hadoop.
• Design and implement data quality checks, validation frameworks, and data governance.

Responsibilities

• Data Reliability & Quality: set and enforce SLOs for data freshness, completeness, and accuracy.
• Data Observability: implement tools to monitor data journey from ingestion to consumption.
• Pipeline Resiliency & Automation: embed reliability patterns in data pipelines (Informatica, Python/PySpark, EMR/Hadoop).
• Toil Elimination: automate data validation, reprocessing, backfilling and other manual tasks.
• Incident Management: lead data-related incidents and post-mortems.
• Runbook Automation: create data-aware runbooks for failures and recovery scenarios.
