Job summary

The Hartford in Chicago, IL is seeking a Staff Data Site Reliability Engineer to focus on the integrity, quality, and availability of data assets and pipelines. This hybrid role partners with the SRE team to strengthen the data journey and ensure trusted data for downstream consumers.

The position emphasizes data observability, automation, and runbook development, with hands-on work in Informatica, Python/Pyspark, SQL, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years in Infrastructure, Data or related tech
• 3+ years in Data Engineering, Data Quality, or a specialized SRE role
• Experience with data warehousing and data lake tech including Snowflake and cloud environments (AWS/GCP)
• Hands-on experience with ETL pipelines using SSIS/SSMS
• Knowledge of data observability concepts and tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Bigeye)

Responsibilities

• Establish Data Service Level Objectives for data freshness, completeness and accuracy
• Implement data observability to monitor data journey in real time
• Collaborate on data pipelines using Informatica, Python/Pyspark on EMR/Hadoop
• Automate data validation, reprocessing, and backfilling to reduce toil
• Lead data-related incident response and post-mortems
• Create automated runbooks for data pipeline failures and recovery
