Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead modernizing a healthcare data platform. The role focuses on migrating from MSSQL XML to a scalable AWS-native data architecture, enabling SQL-based reporting for business stakeholders. Strong AWS, SQL, and XML experience are required.

The position is 100% remote, U.S.-based, with a Public Trust (MBI) security clearance and a focus on data modeling, architecture decisions, and CI/CD pipelines using AWS tooling.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience architecting cloud data platform migrations in enterprise or healthcare.
• Track record of evaluating and selecting AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS experience across S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL skills for relational queries over XML/JSON.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and XML transformation at scale.
• Ability to evaluate trade-offs across AWS data services for cost/performance.
• Familiarity with BI tooling (Athena, QuickSight, Redshift or equivalents).
• Proficiency with Git, GitHub, and CI/CD tooling; IaC practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of the healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve MSSQL XML object store toward a scalable, cloud-native AWS data architecture for SQL-based reports.
• Evaluate and decide the right AWS data strategy for the platform.
• Design reporting layers enabling business users to run relational SQL queries.
• Architect the migration path for XML object store data into the AWS platform.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata management.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with back-end C#/.Net engineers to ensure data flow from EDI pipelines.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using AWS tooling.
• Apply IaC practices using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
