Syms Strategic Group is hiring a Data Platform Engineer to lead modernization of a healthcare data platform and drive a cloud-native AWS architecture for scalable, SQL-based reporting.

You will evaluate data strategies, design migration of XML data from MSSQL, and build reporting layers for business users while collaborating with a .NET backend team. A strong AWS background and data governance focus are essential for success.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting and executing cloud data platform migrations in production environments.
• Track record of selecting AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS experience across data services: S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve to a scalable cloud-native AWS data architecture enabling SQL-based reports.
• Evaluate AWS data strategy and optimal storage/query options (S3+Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift).
• Design and build reporting layers for non-technical users using familiar tooling.
• Architect migration of XML data from MSSQL to AWS platform with effective storage formats.
• Maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata for discoverability.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate reporting needs into data models and queries.
• Coordinate with back-end .NET engineers for data flow from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using AWS tooling (CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy).
• Apply IaC practices using CDK/CloudFormation/Terraform.
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries clearly.
