Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead modernization of a healthcare data platform. The role is remote and focuses on building a cloud-native AWS architecture to support SQL-based reporting for business stakeholders.

You will evaluate AWS data services, design scalable storage and query layers, and collaborate with back-end engineers to ensure clean data flows from EDI processing into the new data layer.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience architecting cloud data platform migrations in production enterprise or healthcare environments.
• Track record of evaluating and selecting AWS data services to meet reporting and query requirements.
• Experience delivering reporting or analytics solutions for non-technical users.
• Deep hands-on AWS experience across data services (S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch).
• Strong SQL skills to design relational query layers over XML/JSON data.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and data migration projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of the healthcare data platform modernization.
• Move from MSSQL XML object store toward scalable, cloud-native AWS data architecture for SQL reports.
• Evaluate and decide the right AWS data strategy for the platform.
• Design and build the reporting and query layer for business users to run SQL queries.
• Architect the migration path for XML object store data into the target AWS platform.
