Job summary

Marqeta, Inc. is seeking a senior engineer to design and lead the data governance platform within the Data and ML team.

You will translate governance policy into platform enforcement, manage CI and write-path behavior, and collaborate with TPMs and engineering managers on planning and prioritization. You will operate a distributed platform across metadata, quality, lineage, and compliance, with a focus on scalable controls and evidence for audits.

• Designed CI/write-path behavior for failed checks.
• Treats engineers/stewards as customers and drives adoption.
• Decided what to build and trade off on a multi-year platform.
• Created evidence-generating controls for audits.
• Proficient in Python, Java, and infrastructure as code.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of the data governance platform.
• Set technical direction across the data/platform team.
• Collaborate with TPMs and engineering managers on planning.
• Translate governance needs into platform enforcement.
• Explain check results to downstream consumers and backfill when needed.
• Work with metadata, data quality, and lineage tooling at scale.
