Job summary

Office of the Illinois Secretary of State is seeking an Information Systems Advisor II focused on data governance and compliance. The role leads governance frameworks, supervises staff, and ensures alignment with agency cybersecurity standards while coordinating across divisions to secure data handling and reporting.

Requires strong knowledge of data standards, metadata, and governance tooling (e.g., Purview) and the ability to drive policies that support enterprise architecture and risk

Qualifications

• Requires two years of college coursework in computer science and 4.5 years of technical systems experience.
• Includes at least 1 year of supervisory experience or equivalent.
• Experience with data governance, compliance, and cybersecurity standards.

Responsibilities

• Leads design and implementation of data governance frameworks and standards.
• Supervises data governance analysts and staff development.
• Ensures NIST-aligned security, privacy, and compliance practices.
• Coordinates with analytics, IT, and business units on governance and compliance.
• Establishes metadata management, Q&A, and documentation practices; supports audits.
• Automates controls and improves data management maturity where possible.
