Job summary

Peregrine Advisors LLC is seeking a senior database engineer to own the data platform, including ETL/ELT processes, data models, and performance tuning in AWS. You will ensure security, availability, and auditable data across Aurora, DynamoDB, and S3, collaborating with architects and engineers in a hybrid, government-focused environment.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in data engineering, strong SQL and AWS skills, and experience with CI/CD and IaC.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on data engineering, database development, or related experience in enterprise applications.
• Bachelor's degree.
• Expertise in Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible) covering schema design, stored procedures, indexing, and execution-plan analysis.
• Experience with Amazon DynamoDB including data modeling and GSIs/LSIs.
• Advanced SQL skills across complex queries, views, stored procedures, and data modeling.
• Performance and query tuning to resolve slow queries, deadlocks, and locking.
• ETL/ELT development and data integration across AWS data services (RDS, S3, DMS).
• Data security controls such as encryption, access management, auditing, and compliance.
• CI/CD and DevSecOps practices for cloud-native apps.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain databases that scale in Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, and other stores.
• Model logical/physical data, build schemas, indexes, views, stored procedures, and functions.
• Write and tune complex SQL with execution plans to optimize high-volume queries.
• Build and support ETL/ELT pipelines and S3 loads to keep data accurate and complete.
• Track and resolve performance, locking, replication, and data-consistency issues.
• Ensure availability and recoverability via monitoring, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery.
• Secure databases with least-privilege access and auditable controls.
• Collaborate with architects and engineers, moving changes through CI/CD and IaC.
