Job summary

Peregrine Advisors LLC in the Washington, DC metropolitan area seeks a junior data engineer to join our federal data platform team. You will build and maintain Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, stored procedures, and views in Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible) and work with data from DynamoDB and S3, contributing to data models and governance.

As you grow, you will take on more responsibility for physical design while delivering reliable data loads and tuned queries.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of data engineering, database development, software development, or comparable practical experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Working knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, and views on Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible).
• Familiarity with DynamoDB and S3.
• Query tuning with guidance from a senior developer.
• Exposure to ETL/ELT and AWS data services.
• Awareness of data security controls, encryption and access management.
• Introductory familiarity with data modeling and facilitating database design decisions.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and views in Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible).
• Work with data from DynamoDB and S3.
• Contribute to logical data models and database-design decisions with reviews.
• Build reliable data loads from S3 and tune queries with guidance.
• Grow toward responsibility for physical design as the platform evolves.
• Communicate clearly about completed work, blockers, and needed support.
