Job summary

Micron Technology's Data Center Workload Engineering team seeks a Senior Systems Performance Engineer to enhance memory and storage performance in data center systems.

You will conduct repeatable studies of AI, databases, virtualization, and distributed-storage workloads, plan tests, trace I/O, identify bottlenecks, and build automation tools, collaborating with SSD architects and customer teams.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field is required, along with more than 3 years of experience.
• Experience in systems performance, application benchmarking, or workload characterization.
• Hands-on experience deploying and debugging applications on Linux.
• Working understanding of the storage I/O path, including Linux I/O, file systems, block storage, NVMe, and PCIe.
• Proficiency with performance-analysis tools and Python or a similar language for problem investigation, test automation, and result explanation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct repeatable studies of AI, database, virtualization, or distributed-storage workloads on production-class systems.
• Plan tests with clear hypotheses, realistic configurations, and appropriate controls.
• Trace application I/O through the system to the SSD, measuring efficiency, completion time, scaling, tail latency, consistency, and power.
• Identify bottlenecks and test SSD features, system architectures, and competing solutions. Provide data-backed recommendations for improvements.
• Develop test automation and analysis tools, including AI-assisted workflows. Share findings through engineering reports, presentations, and customer-facing technical material.
