Job summary

McMillen, Inc. seeks a Senior Dam Safety Engineer for FERC Independent Consultant (IC) work. The role supports dam safety evaluations, reports, and design across the U.S. with strong client management and regulatory experience.

The ideal candidate is a PE with 15+ years in civil/geotechnical dam projects, capable of leading PFMA/L2RA workshops and contributing to business development. Remote work options are available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical engineering; MS preferred.
• Active PE license in good standing is required.
• 15+ years of engineering consulting experience with FERC Part 12D and dam safety work.
• Experience as a FERC-approved Independent Consultant or CDSE is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of federal/state dam safety standards and guidelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including proposals.

Responsibilities

• Perform dam safety work, including FERC Part 12D inspections and CDSE services.
• Lead PFMA and L2RA workshops with clients and stakeholders.
• Oversee hydrological, geotechnical, and structural dam evaluations.
• Prepare review and compliance reports (DSSMRs, PSPs, EAPs, etc.).
• Manage clients, projects, and deliverables with senior oversight.
• Provide dam safety training and lead client exercises with regulators.
• Present findings and advise clients/boards on risk and compliance.
• Lead remedial design for diverse dam types and mentor junior staff.
• Support marketing, proposals, cost estimates, and scheduling.
• Assist in subcontractor selection for dam safety activities.
