Job summary

Workday, Inc. is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to architect and build a scalable Data Lakehouse on AWS. You will own storage formats, partitioning, and compute infrastructure, enabling secure, high-performance data workloads across data platforms and BI tools.

You will define governance, IAM controls, and cost-aware scaling while collaborating with data engineering, analytics, and security teams to deliver resilient, enterprise-grade data foundations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in data platform engineering, cloud infrastructure engineering, or data architecture.
• 3+ years operating Iceberg or Delta Lake in production.
• 3+ years AWS data stack experience (EMR, Athena, S3, Lake Formation).
• 3+ years IaC using Terraform or AWS CDK.
• 3+ years data warehousing foundations (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of enterprise Data Lake/Lakehouse on AWS.
• Define partition strategies, schema evolution, and storage formats for Iceberg/Delta Lake.
• Design, configure, and maintain compute engines and query layers (EMR, Athena, Redshift).
• Define infrastructure for Data Marts and secure access patterns.
• Architect and enforce data governance, IAM, encryption, and access controls with Lake Formation.
• Implement IaC to provision data platform environments.
• Monitor and optimize AWS data spend and scale with data growth.
