Job summary

Aston Carter in Memphis, TN seeks a Customs Entry Writer to prepare, review, and process import entries, ensuring compliance with U.S. customs and agency requirements.

You will coordinate clearance, shipments, and documentation, interface with CBP and traders, and maintain timely tracking and accurate invoicing. This contract-to-hire onsite role requires 5+ years in import brokerage, CargoWise One proficiency, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in import customs brokerage, customs entry writing, or a closely related role.
• Strong understanding of current U.S. Customs regulations and Harmonized Tariff Codes.
• Hands-on experience with import processes, inbound shipments, customs compliance, and brokerage operations.
• Proficiency in CargoWise One for customs entry preparation, tracking, and documentation management.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting, and data management.
• Ability to interpret and work with bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, and other import documents.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate data entry, classification, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent time management and organizational abilities to handle multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
• Effective communication skills for interfacing with customers, steamship lines, freight forwarders, and trucking companies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate customs entries for all import shipments and submit to U.S. Customs in a timely manner.
• Review import documentation to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Identify products subject to OGA and report data appropriately.
• Determine correct HTS classifications and enter OGA/PGA data into systems.
• Interface with CBP and partners to resolve questions and issues promptly.
• Maintain daily tracking reports for open shipments and ensure visibility.
• Coordinate with steamship lines, freight forwarders, and CFS for status updates.
• Issue delivery orders and arrange pickup and final delivery with carriers.
• Handle invoicing and review freight bills for accuracy.
• Apply Incoterms and ocean freight knowledge to support inbound shipments.
• Maintain high standards of compliance and brokerage practices.
