Job summary

VAST Data is seeking a Customer Support Engineer in Houston, TX to join our Flight Crew and handle post-sales technical challenges across file protocols, storage, and AI workloads. You will collaborate with customers, pre-sales, services, and engineering to ensure rapid resolution and high satisfaction.

You will work hands-on, respond to issues, perform on-site field services, and contribute to deployments and testing of HPC and S3-enabled workflows in lab and customer sites.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in customer-facing roles with storage solutions.
• Time management with changing priorities.
• Extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure: networking, storage, software.
• Linux system administration tasks and Linux OS knowledge.
• Networking understanding and Linux configurations/troubleshooting.
• Bash scripting; familiarity with another programming language.
• Experience with file systems and scale-out NAS.
• Knowledge of S3 and HPC is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Lab and hardware management experience a plus.
• Experience in fast-growing startup environment a plus.
• MS or B.Sc in CS/CE/EE or related fields.
• Willingness to travel ~20%.
• Rotational weekend shift every 8-12 weeks and occasional holidays.

Responsibilities

• Build trusted customer relationships based on a customer-first mindset and technical excellence.
• Respond to technical support issues quickly with hands-on troubleshooting.
• Perform daily technical operations and drive issues to resolution.
• Provide field services: installations, upgrades, break-fix, expansions.
• Submit and manage feature requests and bugs with product teams.
• Advocate for account priorities and track escalations.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and adoption.
• Support account teams on technical status and activities.
• Balance workload to meet KPIs and SLAs while keeping customers happy.
