Senior Customer Support Engineer - AI Data Platform

Job summary

VAST Data is seeking a Customer Support Engineer to join a fast-growing team. You will act as a technical expert handling post-sales activities, resolving issues, and collaborating with engineering, pre-sales, and services across AI and data workloads.

You will engage with field deployments, scale-out storage, file protocols, and HPC workloads, ensuring customer success and rapid escalation when needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in customer-facing, pre-/post-sale roles with complex storage solutions.
• Ability to manage time and case load amid changing priorities.
• Extensive knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure, networking, storage, and enterprise software.
• Linux system administration tasks and Linux OS understanding.
• Networking knowledge with Linux configurations and troubleshooting.
• Bash scripting proficiency; familiarity with one or more programming languages.
• Experience with file systems and scale-out NAS implementations.
• Hands-on experience with S3 and high-performance computing is advantageous.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Lab/hardware management experience is an advantage.
• Experience in a rapidly growing startup environment is advantageous.
• MS or B.Sc. in CS/CE/EE or related fields.
• Willingness to travel ~20% of the time.
• Rotational weekend shifts every 8–12 weeks and occasional holiday coverage.

Responsibilities

• Build trusted customer relationships with a customer-first mindset and technical excellence.
• Respond to technical issues quickly, with hands-on approach and clear communication.
• Complete daily technical operations and drive issues to resolution.
• Perform and support field services: installations, upgrades, break-fix, expansions.
• Escalate to engineering when needed and test solutions in lab and customer sites.
• Collaborate with pre-sales, professional services and engineering on technical problems.
• Advocate for account priorities and track bugs/feature requests.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and wider product adoption.
• Support account teams on technical status and activities.
• Balance workload to meet KPIs and SLAs while ensuring satisfaction.
