Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks a Cultural Resources Unit Manager to oversee the cultural resources studies program for environmental documents and highway projects. You will supervise in-house experts and consultants, coordinate with SHPO and federal agencies, and develop programmatic agreements to ensure 106 compliance.

Qualifications

  • Meet the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for archaeology (36 CFR Part 61) including supervisory experience.
  • PhD or Master in anthropology/archaeology plus three years in Section 106 project management, or eleven years in Section 106 project management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the cultural resources studies program for environmental documents and compliance.
  • Direct in-house cultural resource staff and manage Illinois State Archaeological Survey personnel and consultants.
  • Coordinate projects with FHWA, FRA, FAA, SHPO, and federally recognized tribes.
  • Develop Cultural Resource Programmatic Agreements and MOUs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Section 106 and other historic preservation laws.
