Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief in Phoenix, AZ to lead field surveys and oversee crew activities on diverse projects. You will conduct and supervise field surveys, ensure safety and data quality, and mentor junior staff in a dynamic geospatial team.

The role requires extensive experience with surveying methods, equipment, and data management, including Total Stations, GNSS, and associated software.

Qualifications

  • High School/GED or related field; Associate degree preferred.
  • 7+ years surveying experience; 2+ years as Crew Chief or graduate of four-year survey program.
  • Valid driver’s license; CST II preferred; Drone License 107 possible.
  • English reading/writing proficiency for job communications.
  • Advanced surveying knowledge and equipment familiarity.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and handle surveying data and calculations.
  • Team-oriented with collaboration and respect for others.
  • Mathematics knowledge: geometry and trigonometry required.
  • Familiarity with Trimble Access features including 3D linework and roads.
  • Knowledge of TSC5 and/or TSC7.
  • Clean driving record; MVR may be checked.

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey Discipline in Phoenix, Arizona. The Senior Survey Crew Chief conducts field surveys independently or with the assistance of other field crew staff. Responsibilities include performing and/or overseeing all field survey activities on assigned projects of varying complexity, using standard equipment, work, and safety methods. Responsibilities
  • Plan and perform an increased variety of field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods, and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
  • Supervise and direct other survey crew members.
  • Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
  • Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
  • Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with moderate assistance from office support team.
  • Prepare cut sheets for construction assignments as needed.
  • Review and determine the validity of data collection.
  • Demonstrate initiative in analyzing and developing solutions to issues encountered on projects.
  • Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
  • Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
  • Adhere to corporate and client Health and Safety program(s) and all applicable SOPs.
  • Prepare or receive from the PM, the Health, and Safety Checklists. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc. associated with the work being performed.
  • Use and instruct others to properly use Total Stations, Data Collector, GNSS, and other specialized survey equipment to collect data.
  • Ability to perform a GPS calibration and run a Level Loop with a Digital Level.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common GPS/Radio issues.
  • Electronically transfer field data files, photos and associated forms to office team daily.
  • Mentor field survey staff to facilitate advancement.
Qualifications
  • High School/GED or equivalent, Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience, 2+ years as Crew Chief, or graduate of an accredited four-year survey degree program.
  • Valid driver’s license required. CST level II preferred. Ability to obtain Drone License 107.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
  • Advanced knowledge of surveying practices and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively handle surveying equipment.
  • Effectively work as a team, collaborate, contribute and respect others.
  • Knowledge of math, geometry and trigonometry for the purpose of performing calculations.
  • Advanced organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Use of other computer software: Trimble Connect, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excell.
  • Knowledge of Trimble Access’s features to include the use of 3D linework and models. Use of “General Survey” and “Roads”.
  • Familiarity with the TSC5 and/or TSC 7.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.

Physical Requirements
  • Work requires using a machete, shovel and sledgehammer, or other appropriate tools.
  • Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. over rough terrain may be required.
  • Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of field equipment.
  • Sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell.
  • Able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times daily; drive several miles daily.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions/Environment
  • Requires working outside in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time. The terrain may be rough, steep, wet or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered.
