Job summary

Chime is seeking an experienced Credit Risk Data Scientist to lead the credit strategy for new-to-Chime applicants and future unsecured products. You will work with product, growth, data engineering, ML, and analytics teams to design risk policies that optimize growth while managing losses, and collaborate with bank partners to govern adherence and reporting.

You’ll mentor other data scientists, build risk models using bureau and internal data, and own monitoring dashboards that track defaults,

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Math, Finance, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline; a PhD is a plus.
• 7+ years of analytical or data science experience in Financial Services, preferably FinTech.
• 4+ years of risk management for unsecured credit products (installment loans, lines of credit, or credit cards); acquisition/underwriting experience preferred.
• Hands-on experience with credit bureau data and prescreen/pre-approval or direct mail programs.
• Experience with credit furnishing, bankruptcies, delinquency, write-offs, and consumer lending regulation (FCRA, ECOA/Reg B, fair lending, adverse action).

Responsibilities

• Own credit strategy for new-to-Chime applicants across the lifecycle, starting with Instant Loans.
• Develop and evolve channel-specific credit policies to balance growth, risk, and experience.
• Design acquisition, loan amount/line assignment, pricing, repayment, and collections strategies.
• Lead tests and monitor trade-offs among approvals, losses, and lifetime value.
• Collaborate with DSML to test and deploy risk models in production with interpretable adverse action reasons.
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, and bank partners to document and govern policies.
