Job summary

Chime is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Lending to own end-to-end backend systems that connect member-facing products with shared platforms. You will lead cross-team initiatives, define APIs, and design for scale while partnering with Risk, Data Science, Finance, and Ops to translate ambiguous problems into durable, high-value technical solutions.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and influence how Lending evolves as a system, not just a single feature.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building and operating production software at scale.
• Strong backend fundamentals, Ruby on Rails or similar, and API/distributed systems experience.
• Experience with transactional databases, async processing, caching, and large-scale architecture.
• Sound system design judgment balancing correctness, scalability, and maintainability.
• Proven track record leading multi‑team, cross‑domain projects.
• Experience in fintech, lending, payments, risk, or related domains.
• Ownership mindset with comfort in ambiguity and driving clarity.
• Strong communication and collaboration across engineering and partners.
• Product mindset linking technical decisions to member experience and business outcomes.
• Mentoring engineers to raise design quality, testing, and ops excellence.
• Curiosity and sound judgment to deeply understand and improve systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end architecture and delivery of backend systems that connect lending products with shared platforms.
• Drive cross-team initiatives from problem definition through rollout and iteration.
• Own technical problems with real business and member impact, bringing momentum where path is unclear.
• Define APIs, data contracts, and integration patterns to accelerate product velocity safely.
• Design for scale, observability, resiliency, and operational excellence with robust error handling.
• Identify reusable platform capabilities to unlock future velocity across Lending.
• Partner with Product, Design, Risk, Data Science, Finance, and Ops to translate problems into practical solutions.
• Influence ownership boundaries and reduce integration friction across teams.
• Participate in on-call and incident response; turn lessons into lasting improvements.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and hands-on collaboration to raise organizational leadership.
