Job summary

Encova Insurance is seeking a Senior Coverage Attorney (Senior Claims Coverage & General Counselor) to serve as the senior legal and technical resource for insurance coverage, claim handling practices, coverage litigation, and regulatory matters.

This remote/hybrid role from Columbus, Ohio requires strong expertise in coverage interpretation, litigation strategy, and cross-functional guidance for Claims, Underwriting, and product teams.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree required and active license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Minimum 10 years of insurance coverage analysis or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of commercial and personal lines coverage and claim handling practices.
• Experience managing outside counsel and legal spend preferred.
• Ability to translate complex legal issues into practical guidance for claims teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely legal guidance on complex coverage matters across lines of business.
• Advise Claims leadership on dispute resolution and regulatory risks.
• Lead and supervise coverage litigation strategies with outside counsel.
• Develop training, templates, and playbooks for coverage analysis and best practices.
• Coordinate with Legal, Underwriting, and product teams on policy language and product modifications.
