Job summary

Encova Mutual Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Coverage Attorney (Senior Claims Coverage & General Counselor) for a remote or hybrid role from our Columbus, OH area. The senior legal resource will guide insurance coverage decisions, support regulatory responses, and manage large coverage disputes with outside counsel.

A JD, active license, and 10+ years in coverage analysis are required. The role partners with Claims, Legal, and Underwriting to shape coverage guidance, litigation strategy,

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing is required.
• CPCU, AIC, SCLA, or other relevant insurance industry designations are helpful.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience involving insurance coverage analysis, insurance litigation, claim‑related legal support, or comparable property and casualty insurance experience is required.
• Extensive knowledge of commercial and personal lines insurance coverage, policy interpretation, and claim handling practices is required.
• Experience serving as coverage counsel, claims counsel, claim center general counselor, or in a similar role is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely legal and technical guidance on complex commercial and personal lines coverage matters.
• Advise Claims leadership on dispute‑resolution approaches, extra‑contractual exposure, and regulatory reviews.
• Develop and execute litigation and resolution strategies with outside counsel.
• Monitor regulatory developments and provide guidance/training to promote compliance.
• Coordinate with Legal and Underwriting on policy wording, endorsements, and product review as needed.
