Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking a BSI Claim Counsel in Hartford, CT. You will conduct thorough investigation, analysis and disposition of professional liability claims, providing legal guidance to underwriting and claim colleagues.

With five or more years of relevant experience, you will negotiate settlements, coordinate with outside counsel, and support risk mitigations while traveling to select mediations and conferences.

• Five or more years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience.
• Ability to work through conflict and resolve issues professionally.
• Ability to make sound decisions and negotiate within authority.
• Strong verbal and written communication to articulate coverage determinations.
• Time management and ability to handle multiple priorities with detail.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers and partners.

Responsibilities

• Follow policies to analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims with moderate supervision.
• Prepare and present reports reflecting loss development and financial exposure.
• Monitor outside counsel with litigation management plans and budgets.
• Communicate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Develop ability to identify recovery opportunities and coordinate efforts.
• Travel to mediations, settlement conferences, and depositions.
• Refine policy interpretation and drafting coverage opinions with case law.
• Negotiate settlements and review releases with confidentiality provisions.
• Support underwriting marketing with broker visits and white papers.
• Research marketplace conditions and draft reference materials for claims and underwriting.
• Obtain and maintain required adjusters’ licenses.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
