Job summary

Travelers Insurance is seeking a seasoned professional to lead BSI claims matters, providing legal analysis and strategic guidance across construction-related and other surety bonds. The role supports underwriting partners and non-attorney claim colleagues, with opportunities to engage in risk mitigation and dispute resolution.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of legal/claims experience, strong negotiation and communication skills, and a Juris Doctorate with active licensure.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience.
• Ability to negotiate terms within designated authority limit.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Time management with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers, and business partners.

Responsibilities

• Follow policies to analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims with moderate supervision.
• Prepare and present reports reflecting loss development and financial exposure.
• Retain and manage outside counsel with litigation management plans and budgets.
• Communicate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Develop recovery opportunities with the Recovery Management Unit and Claim management.
• Travel to mediations, settlements, conferences, and depositions.
• Provide legal review to underwriters on bond obligations and documents.
• Advise on mitigation strategies and account workout risks.
