Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor - Data Center Construction
Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Manager or Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial management, cost control, and estimating services for a global technology client’s large-scale data center construction program.
The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills and be comfortable in a client-facing role.
Responsibilities
- Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Provide cost estimates and planning, including producing and presenting final cost plans.
- Review and collaborate with design teams and general contractors on cost estimates.
- Reconcile changes and ensure data accuracy for general contractors.
- Communicate with contractors and project managers to update cost estimates.
- Prepare comments on contractor submissions, including executive summaries.
- Coordinate cost information from various sources for discussions and procurement.
- Inform engineering priorities based on cost impacts.
- Resolve scheduling issues proactively with minimal supervision.
- Manage cost checks and valuations on larger projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Participate in post-contract cost variance analysis and change control processes.
- Manage contingency and commitment tracking logs.
- Prepare funding presentations and coordinate value engineering sessions.
- Adhere to SOX controls where applicable.
Qualifications
- This is a hybrid role with some onsite requirements.
- Strong experience in post-contract and change order management.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years in cost management and quantity surveying, preferably with data centers or similar projects.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- PQS or MRICS accreditation is a plus.
- Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Sage).
- Deep knowledge of construction contracts, procurement, and risk management.
- Understanding of data center design, including MEP systems and structural elements.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
