Job summary

Iowa Department of Corrections and Community Based Corrections is seeking a Corrections Supervisor to oversee security personnel on an assigned shift and ensure adherence to policy and post orders. The role includes daily rounds, log maintenance, and reporting to the Security Director.

Responsibilities include coordinating training, conducting performance evaluations, and assisting with staff interviews while ensuring safety and disciplinary processes are followed.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time work experience in correctional or law enforcement work, with at least one year as a correctional officer in a juvenile or adult program.
• A combination of one year of experience plus education: thirty semester hours in penology, police science, psychology, sociology, or social work equals one year of experience.
• Eighteen months of full-time work as a counselor of offenders in a community/institutional corrections or jail security program.
• A combination of education and experience as described above.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch with relevant roles (Senior Correctional Officer, Correctional Counselor, or Correctional Officer-related positions).
• Possession of a background investigation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security personnel and assign job duties on an assigned shift.
• Conduct daily rounds to ensure safety and post order compliance.
• Maintain logs and report information to incoming shift supervisors.
• Oversee disciplinary reports and ensure accurate documentation.
• Coordinate training sessions and staff development.
• Assist with interviews for security staff applicants and explain benefits.
