Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks an experienced supervisor to manage security staff and oversee inmate custody in RHU MAX. You will direct post checks, control room operations, and an inspection program to ensure safety, sanitation, and equipment controls.

Role requires completion of eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training on hire, certification by the SCDC Training Academy, and a minimum of three years in related fields with supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience are required.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, with one year of supervisory experience, is required.
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months are required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff and oversee security, custody and control of inmates in RHU Max.
• Maintain security of all RHU MAX buildings and property.
• Maintain a logbook of all incidents during shift.
• Supervise use of keys and related security equipment.
• Perform security and post checks.
• Monitor control room operations.
• Direct and supervise an inspection program to correct deficiencies in security, safety, sanitation, and maintenance of RHU MAX.
• Instruct, train, assign, and monitor officers and security staff under area of responsibility.
• Ensure medical referrals are provided when needed for inmates and staff under emergency conditions.
• Personally check all RHU MAX cells daily and document.
• Ensure RHU MAX maintains high cleanliness and sanitation.
• Familiarity with SCDC policies and procedures.
