Job summary

Adult Correction in North Carolina seeks a Corrections Sergeant to supervise staff at a state prison facility. The role includes shift leadership, post assignments, and ensuring staff readiness in a rotating schedule.

The position requires NC certification eligibility, background checks, drug screening, medical and psychological evaluations, and a valid driver’s license. Strong report writing and policy knowledge are preferred, with a focus on safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver's license

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision for subordinate staff, conduct shift line-up, assign posts, and inspect personnel for fitness.
• Conduct investigations and perform searches of persons, places, and objects.
• Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, evaluations, and administrative forms.
• Perform security inspections of the facility and grounds; monitor posts for alertness and proper execution of assignments.
• Perform rescue functions including CPR, basic first aid, removing people from danger, and using firefighting equipment.
• Identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training to staff.
• Account for persons and funds and ensure equipment is operational.
