Job summary

Pearson is seeking a detail-oriented editor to join our editorial team in Springfield, IL. The role focuses on end-to-end copyediting across assessment components, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to house styles.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to uphold editorial quality and integrity. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 3+ years of editorial experience (including 2+ years in educational assessment), and strong knowledge of major style

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification/training.
• 3+ years editorial experience; 2+ years in educational assessment.
• Proficient copyediting: spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, usage.
• Familiar with Chicago Manual of Style and other standards.

Responsibilities

• Implements grammar, spelling, usage, punctuation, syntax, and style per department, client, and industry standards; applies rules consistently.
• Ensures uniformity and consistency across assessment components; sustains focus and reliably identifies errors throughout the workday while minimizing mistakes.
• Exercises good judgment when applying client style guidelines; queries when deviations from style would be appropriate for best outcomes; may create/modify client style guidelines.
• Understands the copyeditor’s scope of responsibility, knows what to do when requested to go beyond scope, and flags concerns when needed.
• Proactively seeks learning opportunities to strengthen editorial expertise by refining skills, expanding knowledge of style guides, and integrating emerging best practices.
