Job summary

Lazarus Energy Systems is building the brain of a MW-class machine for a natural gas–to–nuclear integration project in Hawthorne, CA. You’ll design, implement, and validate the control system, trip logic, and DAQ from concept to production, working closely with the founding team and Test Engineers.

The role blends real-time controls with hands-on commissioning on aggressive timelines, offering high impact and equity in a fast-moving hardware startup environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering.
• Experience with real-time control systems for hardware (PLC, cRIO/PXI, or equivalent).
• Strong controls fundamentals: closed-loop control and machine protection logic.
• Ability to write and debug control/safety software (LabVIEW, Python, C/C++).
• DAQ fundamentals like sensor selection and logging.

Responsibilities

• Own the control system for the MW machine, including the controller/PLC, safety-system architecture, the I/O list, and the software that runs on it.
• Design and implement closed-loop control for start-up, steady state, and shutdown sequencing.
• Own the trip and protection logic for overspeed, surge, loss of load, etc.
• Write and test real-time safety-critical control software with bench and HIL testing.
• Own the machine’s DAQ and instrumentation, coordinating with the Test Engineer for test stands.
• Support bring-up, commissioning, and test campaigns with tuning and debugging to get the machine running.
