Job summary

Gradian Thermal Solutions in Maple Grove, MN, seeks a Senior Controls Engineer to design, integrate, and program advanced control systems for chillers and heat rejection equipment. You will lead cross-functional teams, define architectures, and mentor junior engineers while delivering reliable, efficient control solutions for mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities include developing hardware and software for HMIs, PLCs, and PC-based controls; testing on benches and prototypes; and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in control systems engineering, preferably with OEM products.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Visio for detailed electrical schematics.
• Ability to develop and implement control algorithms for PC, PLC, and HMI platforms.
• Familiarity with Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet, and Ethernet/IP.
• Capability to perform three-phase power and arc flash calculations for 480VAC enclosures.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate control systems for chillers and heat rejection equipment, including dry coolers, adiabatic coolers, cooling towers, and condensers.
• Develop control system architectures for new machines, including hardware selection and software programming logic.
• Program control logic and sequences of operation to meet customer requirements and standards.
• Test control systems on benches, prototypes, and test rigs to identify and resolve issues.
• Collaborate with R&D, product development, sales, and support to deliver effective control solutions.
• Create and maintain detailed engineering docs including drawings and system specs.
• Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet customer specs.
• Maintain and improve internal processes to enhance quality and efficiency.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies.
