Job summary

Hawaii State Federal Credit Union is seeking a Senior Consumer Loan Underwriter Professional for its Centralized Lending team in Honolulu. The role reviews and underwrites consumer loan products, including online and branch-originated loans, and ensures compliance with credit union standards and regulatory guidelines.

Key duties include risk assessment, loan approvals, and collaboration with Loan Coordinators, branch staff, and vendors to maintain efficient, secure lending operations.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of loan underwriting experience.
• Knowledge of consumer and home equity lending practices.
• Strong math, analytical, and financial skills.
• Working knowledge of Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to adapt to changes in work environment or processes.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite all consumer loan products, including home equity loans originated online, in branches, or through centralized lending.
• Approve, suspend, or deny loan applications in line with standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Identify, analyze, and evaluate loan risks and compensating factors.
• Support front-line staff and vendors in loan origination and processing.
• Ensure loans are approved within credit union policies and legal requirements.
• Provide guidance to Loan Personnel and maintain asset safety.
