Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an experienced engineer to perform advanced engineering work tied to Bulk Electric System operations and reliability. The role emphasizes leadership, planning, and compliance across engineering, operations, and regulatory functions.

The position requires ABET-accredited engineering credentials and extensive related experience, with PE licensure preferred. It offers a competitive compensation package and a robust benefits program within a United States energy

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required or alternative with PE licensing considered.
• Typically 10+ years of related engineering experience with Bachelor’s, or 8+ years with Master’s/PhD.
• PE license preferred; registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico accepted.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates strong understanding of BES operations and reliability principles.
• Lead system-wide activities in specialized engineering areas.
• Develop and implement plans to address system-wide issues in the field of expertise.
• Identify and resolve highly complex problems with extensive knowledge of equipment.
• Prepare and present complex technical subjects to senior management and regulatory bodies.
• Build teams and networks across AEP and external organizations.
• Make decisions impacting the AEP system and strategic direction.
• Leverage expertise to make the area a strategic asset for the AEP system.
