Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an experienced engineer to join our team as a Senior/Principal engineer. You will apply engineering knowledge to advance projects safely, efficiently, and economically under the guidance of a supervisor.

The role emphasizes leadership, training, cross-functional coordination, and adherence to ABET standards and regulatory requirements. Strong communication and decision-making are essential in delivering quality results.

Qualifications

ABET-accredited engineering degree required or equivalent.
PE license encouraged and preferred; alignment with NCEES standards for Puerto Rico may apply.
Senior: 4+ years of related engineering experience with Bachelor's; or 2+ years with Master's/PhD.
Principal: 8+ years with Bachelor's or 6+ years with Master's/PhD; PE preferred unless waived.

Responsibilities

Exhibits journey level proficiency plus advanced knowledge and leads within the organization.
Leads and coordinates work activities of others; ensures compliance with policies and external regulations.
Develops reviews or reports on complex technical subjects for management and regulatory bodies.
Promotes engineering professionalism and standards; coordinates and conducts training sessions.
Demonstrates effective problem solving, decision making, and risk assessment in projects.
