Job Description

General Responsibilities:
Perform inspections on large, complex, and diverse projects, requiring expertise and knowledge in multiple areas of construction inspection. Oversee the work of other testing and inspection personnel.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed, in accordance with training and specified procedures, to ensure work meets contract specifications.
  2. Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  3. Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
  4. Prepare inspection reports and document nonconformance.
  5. Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy before communication and submission to the Project Manager.
  6. Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
  7. Interact with clients and site personnel to provide input on resolving findings.
  8. Assist the Project Manager in developing scopes for testing and inspection services.
  9. Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with project, department, and office managers.
  10. Maintain equipment operation and calibration.
  11. Lead, provide direction, and coordinate activities of lower-level inspectors.
  12. Perform advanced fieldwork and assist with project management.
  13. Follow safety rules and practices, perform pre-task planning, and report safety issues.
  14. Maintain quality standards on all projects.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.
  3. Minimum 4-6 years of experience in construction inspection.
  4. Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Required Certifications:

  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
  • At least four certifications from the following areas:
    • NICET Level II in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils)
    • NICET Level II in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist)
    • ICC certifications (e.g., Reinforced Concrete, Structural Steel, Fireproofing, Masonry)
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • ASNT Level II in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing
  • Other relevant national, regional, state, and local certifications considered appropriate by the department manager.
  • ACI certifications in areas such as Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I or Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
  • Certification in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation (if applicable).
