Job summary

The Weitz Company is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join our Legal team in Des Moines, IA. You will partner with the General Counsel to provide practical legal guidance, review contracts, and manage risk across business units, including claims and litigation oversight.

You’ll support due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and complex projects, while coordinating with outside counsel and technology initiatives to improve contract workflows. This role is onsite at our Des Moines office.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate and bar in good standing required.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal support on company-wide inquiries including contract terms, liens, claims, disputes, and other project issues.
• Negotiate and prepare prime agreements, subcontracts, and other documents.
• Identify and propose solutions to project risks via contract terms.
• Manage and resolve potential claims or litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolutions.
• Educate business units on laws and regulations to ensure compliant practices.
• Coordinate with risk management and insurance on related matters.
• Perform due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, international dealings, or other transactions.
• Evaluate and approve contract modifications or requested exceptions.
• Assist with development of technology for contract review processes.
