Job summary

Interstates is seeking an Associate Counsel to join its growing Legal team in Sioux Center, IA, with potential in Sioux Falls, SD, or Omaha, NE. You will support the business on complex electrical, technology, and manufacturing projects and collaborate with leaders across departments to provide practical legal guidance.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 0–3 years of legal experience preferred; recent graduates welcome.
• Experience reviewing, drafting, or negotiating commercial contracts.
• Coursework or experience in corporate, commercial, construction, employment, or IP law is a plus.
• Strong writing, negotiation, and organizational skills.
• Confidentiality and sound judgment are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical legal guidance to business leaders and stakeholders on day-to-day matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and revise commercial agreements, including customer contracts and vendor agreements.
• Identify risks in agreements and propose practical solutions aligned with company objectives.
• Support contract negotiations and help develop templates, playbooks, and review procedures.
• Conduct legal research and prepare analyses for business and leadership.
• Assist with governance, compliance, employment, IP, litigation, and real estate matters.
