Job summary

Markel in Red Bank, NJ seeks an experienced Senior Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity claims with potential litigation exposure. You will manage from coverage enquiry to liability assessment and quantum analysis, aiming to mitigate indemnity and expense exposure while communicating updates to stakeholders.

The role offers increased decision-making within authority, training responsibilities, and acting as a technical resource for the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• JD , advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.

Responsibilities

• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents.
• Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions.
• Prepares coverage position letters and refers to SIU as needed.
• Conducts investigations into loss facts and damages.
• Directs investigations to experts and outside counsel.
• Evaluates information to determine insured exposure.
• Sets reserves within authority or recommends reserve changes.
• Negotiates and settles claims typically in litigation within authority.
• Presents at roundtables to senior claims leaders and underwriters.
• Participates in special projects and may lead large projects.
• Represents Markel at mediations, trials, and conferences.
• Pulls and analyzes loss information for stakeholders.
• Provides input into claims guidelines and best practices.
