Job summary

Markel is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner in Richmond, VA to resolve moderate to high complexity claims with increasing decision-making authority. You will manage coverage analysis, liability assessment, and quantum evaluation, while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders and training peers.

Candidate should have 5+ years in claims handling, a claims adjuster license, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of claims handling experience or equivalent.
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.

Responsibilities

• Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents.
• Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions.
• Prepares coverage position letters and refers suspicious losses to SIU.
• Conducts investigations into loss facts and damages.
• Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel.
• Negotiates and settles claims typically in litigation within authority.
• Represents Markel at mediations, trials, and conferences.
