Job summary

NexGen Contracting is seeking a General Superintendent to join our Concrete Department in Birmingham, AL. The role oversees safety, quality, and scheduling, coordinating supervisory staff and subcontractors to meet project timelines.

The candidate will study specifications, assemble teams, set up sites, procure materials, and ensure documentation and cost controls are properly maintained on site. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or minimum of five years concrete related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess basic computer skills including the ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet and email applications.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain high safety and quality standards in accordance to company and industry standards.
• Studies specifications and blueprints to plan procedures for materials and construction on basis of starting and completion times.
• Assembles and schedules appropriate team members and sub-contractors at start of project, as well as coordinating staffing requirements throughout the project.
• Sets up construction site and procures tools and materials to be delivered on schedule.
• Directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors to plan and execute work procedures, interpret specifications, and coordinate phases of construction to prevent delays and ensure quality.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure workmanship conforms to specifications and safety standards.
• Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts schedules as indicated by reports.
• Directs workers on major maintenance or reconditioning projects and enforces Gray’s safety program on site.
